Hi everyone!
Welcome to our Travelers Joy registry, where you can help us make our dream of wandering Eastern Europe like a band of gypsies come true! Collectively, we have traveled all over the United States, Mexico, and western Europe; and we're excited to expand our horizons to the east.
This will be the first time we will be in the same place in Europe at the same time for more than 3 days. (We once went to Berlin in January 2010, but Octavio went to Milan while Trisha stayed in Berlin.) We'll be covering a lot of exciting and unfamiliar ground, immersing ourselves in completely foreign languages (try saying "rzhez-nyits-tvee"), and trying all the local cuisine.
We are really looking forward to exploring all the tiny streets and alleys, the antiques and curio stores, the local pubs; learning the history of the cities, riding by train through the countryside, and experiencing Eastern Europe together for the first time!
We love you all!
Trisha & Octavio
We're going to Germany, Eastern Europe, and the Balkans!
We will be touching down in Berlin to tour the arts and cabaret scene. After we recover from jet lag with a few beers on the Landwehr Canal, we're off to Poland to visit Warsaw and its castles and cathedrals. Next is Krakow, where we'll explore the cobblestone streets and the Wawel Castle.
After Krakow, we'll be heading to Prague to visit Castle Area, the Charles Bridge and Golden Lane - believed to be home to many an alchemist. We'll be taking a train across the center of what used to be Czechoslovakia to Kosice in Slovakia. In Kosice we'll visit the Hall of Records to try and find record of Trisha's grandfather's family, who left Kosice for America in the early 1900's. After we visit the origin place of the Hanudels, we're off to Budapest, where we'll partake in their famous thermal baths and split our time evenly between the Buda side and Pest Town, divided by the Danube River.
Then we hit the Balkan side of the Adriatic Sea, visiting Zagreb and the Croatian coastal towns of Rijeka, Krk, and Rovinj. After sunning ourselves on the sea rocks of the Mediterranean, we'll be boating across the Adriatic Sea to Milan. We'll wrap the trip up in Munich, a car lover's dream, and home to the Mercedes Benz Museum and the Porsche Museum.
