Hi everyone!
Thanks so much for visiting our honeymoon registry. First, we want to be sure you know that your presence at our wedding is gift enough. We know that many of you will have to travel to come celebrate our marriage with us. We appreciate that are you willing to take the time and expense to do so. This means so much to us.
As two thirty somethings who both have their own homes, we have most of the things that we need. And actually, Lisa has been busy giving away many of her household items and furniture so she doesn't have to move them from Wyoming to Washington. We did find a few things for our gift registry at Macy's, but there really isn't much we need so we decided to also set up a honeymoon registry. With the registry, you can give us the gift of experiences. In particular, you can contribute to a spectacular honeymoon that we will always remember. We are excited to spend a week on St. Lucia, a beautiful island where we will get to enjoy beaches, mountains, and rain forests.
Thank you all so much for your love and support! We look forward to celebrating with you in November!
Love,
Tim and Lisa
We're going to St. Lucia!
"In the mist of the sea there is a horned island/with deep green harbours"
~ Derek Walcott, Nobel Laureate who is from St. Lucia
St. Lucia is a mountainous island country in the eastern Caribbean. Two of its famous peaks are the Pitons: the Gros Piton and the Petit Piton. (Would you guess that Petit Piton is the taller one? It is. But Gros Piton is more broad.) The two Pitons are linked by the Piton Mitan ridge. At the top of this ridge, is the Ladera Resort, where we will be staying during our honeymoon. Ladera is perched 1,100 feet above the sea with a view of the Piton Bay. One of the fun features of Ladera is that the rooms only have three walls so we will not have a wall between us and our amazing view of the Pitons and the Caribbean. Cool, huh? We're looking forward to lounging in a private plunge pool in our room and enjoying the view, Oh, and since we are missing the fourth wall, Ladera leaves water guns in the rooms so we can chase away visiting birds.
For a bit of history and the answer to the question, "English or French?" we did some research about St. Lucia. The first known inhabitants of St. Lucia were the Arawaks, who are believed to have come from northern South America between 200 and 400 A.D. A few hundred years later, Caribs replaced Arawaks. Europeans first landed on St. Lucia in either 1492 or 1502. Later, the French and English fought over St. Lucia, with control of the island changing fourteen times. As a result, it was known as the "Helen of the West Indies." The British took control of the island in 1814. St. Lucia gained full Independence in 1979. English is the official language, but most people speak a from of French patois.
