Welcome!

Thank you so much for considering using our honeymoon registry for our wedding. While there are a few physical items we could use around the house, we are both avid recyclers and re-users (and have pack-rat grandparents!) so not a lot is needed. Our good friends introduced us to this site which allows us to share with you all of the fabulous adventures we would like to take on our honeymoon!

Traveling is a huge passion for both of us. For our honeymoon we will be visiting the Pacific Northwest (Portland and Seattle) and Alaska! On this site, you will find a vast array of adventures and opportunities we would like to enjoy on this honeymoon. Please know that we do not expect or plan to accomplish all of these items; think of it as a wish list. Peruse through our items and see if there's anything that catches your fancy and you would like to help us experience. If you would love to see pictures or hear stories of us partaking in anything, go ahead and sign up! Have no fears regarding Traveler's Joy; this site is completely safe and protected.

If you have any questions regarding Traveler's Joy, please either email Gwen (gwenpennington@gmail.com) or see the site's FAQ section.

Thanks again, and we cannot wait to celebrate with you in March!

First things first, we need to get to Portland to begin our honeymoon. The plan is to fly from Colorado Springs to Portland (our arms will be getting sore by the time we arrive).

Portland has a wonderful public transportation system that includes buses, light rail, commuter rail, and streetcars. Help us buy passes so we can expand our adventures.
Gift Fulfilled
There are several parks in Portland we would love to check out, and what better way to visit them than on bikes! Gwen will likely want to rent a tandem so that I have to do all the work.

McMenamins Kennedy School is not only the perfect hotel for teachers (it is a former school that has been renovated into a hotel - complete with chalkboards in each room), but it also has a microbrewery on site! Heaven, I'm in heaven...

We are not frequent fine diners, but on our honeymoon we figured that we better have a few nice dinners. We are both about sustainability, and Paley's Place is a restaurant in downtown Portland that does a great job of providing local foods and wines.

Bunk Sandwiches is said to have the best sandwiches in Portland. We can hardly think of a better lunch than a tasty sandwich and a local craft beer.

Portland is famous for its food carts that serve up a wide variety of foods from around the world. We will likely be going back more than once!
Gift Fulfilled
I love science as much as I love beer, so a stop at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is a must. Nerd alert!

I am an avid fan of beating Gwen in any and all "friendly" competitions. Let's see if I can handle her out on the links at the Heron Lakes Golf Club.

Help us frolic with the animals at the Portland Zoo.

Portland claims to be the microbrewery capital of the world. Widmer, Pyramid, Hopworks, Full Sail...there is not enough space here to list all of the breweries we would like to check out while we are here. Treat us to a pint (or four) and some pub food.

Although beer is our drink of choice, vino holds a special place in our hearts (our first trip was to CA's wine country). Gwen would love to get a bottle at a local winery called Hip Chicks Do Wine.

Gwen is absolutely in love with books, and I aspire to read more because of her. Powell's Books is a used book store that takes up an ENTIRE CITY BLOCK! We would love to find a couple books to kick back with.

We will likely be grabbing our breakfasts on the go, so we are fortunate that Portland has a wealth of local coffee shops. A coffee and a pastry would definitely hit the spot.
Gift Fulfilled
Portland touts an impressive Japanese Garden with views of Mount Hood that we would love to visit.

We absolutely love sushi, and we cannot think of a better way to follow our stroll through the Japanese Garden than with some fresh sushi and sake.

We both like to tout our Norwegian heritage, so a trip to Portland would not be complete without a breakfast at Broder, which serves Scandinavian fare. They even have lefse!

Mariners v. Giants - I am crazy about baseball, and I have managed to get Gwen hooked as well. Although we will likely not experience the wonder of a Miller Park tailgate, we can fall back on stadium food, beer and peanuts.

For some reason I grew up as a fan of the Seattle Sonics, and I am pretty sure the Space Needle is what first attracted my attention (along with Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton). We would love to catch the view from the top!

We will be able to feed our nerd sides at the Pacific Science Center in downtown Seattle. King Tut will be in the house!

It would probably be a good idea for us to see some live sea creatures to go along with the dead ones that will be frequenting our plates. The Seattle Aquarium (which includes a harbor boat ride!) will allow us to do just that.

Obviously one of Seattle's claims to fame is Starbucks. We will be serious tourists and go to the very first Starbucks cafe.

Seattle is surrounded by water, and I don't think it is even a question as to whether or not we should experience it all on kayak. Gwen will prefer a double so I, once again, will have to do all the work.

We are big fans of live comedy. Help us catch some laughs (and reminisce about trips to the Comedy Club on State Street) at Unexpected Productions.

We would love to hop aboard the Victoria Clipper in downtown Seattle and head out to sea for a whale watching extravaganza! I may cry just like the first time I saw the Pacific Ocean.
Gift Fulfilled
It is probably clear by now that we cannot get enough of microbreweries. The Pacific Northwest is the holy grail of microbreweries, and Seattle is no exception. Buy us a variety of Seattle's finest.

Seattle is also well-known for its music scene, and more than just the grunge of the early 90's. We would love to catch a show in one of the classic theaters.
