We are beyond excited to take the occasion of our honeymoon to spend three weeks in Israel and Jordan: five nights in Jerusalem, five nights in Jordan, four nights in the Galilee, four nights in Tel Aviv, and two final nights in Jerusalem.
Going to Israel has been a dream for both us, separately and together, to see the sights sacred to Jews, Christians, and Muslims alike, to experience the spiritual energy of the Holy Land, felt by pilgrims of all religions for thousands of years. Over three weeks, we hope to do some things that tourists don't usually have time to do and maybe come to understand a little better the complexities and dichotomies and contradictions of Israel and Palestine and Jordan.
We know we will be changed when we come back. And we can’t thank you enough for giving us the gift of helping us take this awesome journey. You will find the registry at the bottom of this page.
We're going to Israel and Jordan!
We will arrive in Tel Aviv on Tuesday morning, May 22. Our guide will take us to our hotel in Jerusalem, where we will spend a quiet day, preparing for the next three whirlwind weeks.
PART 1: FIVE NIGHTS IN JERUSALEM
Travel with us, back in time, as our guide leads us through the ancient Jaffa Gate into the Old City, where we will be taken from historic marvel to spiritual landmark: from King David’s Tomb and the Room of the Last Supper, to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher and the Via Dolarosa, from the Arab Market and the Muslim Quarter, through the Armenian Quarter and the Jewish Quarter. We will pray at the Western Wall and pass through the Western Wall Tunnels. Over the next three days, we will visit the Dead Sea Scrolls and the archaeological excavations of Solomon's Jerusalem at the City of David. We will spend Friday at Yad Vashem, paying our respects to those who were exterminated and those who risked their lives to save them. Finally, after a Shabbat dinner, we will have a day to rest.
The next day, after visiting the fortress of Masada, we will cross the border into Jordan at the famous Allenby Bridge and begin the second part of our honeymoon.
PART TWO: FIVE NIGHTS IN JORDAN
At the border, our Israeli guide will hand us over to our Jordanian guide, and we will spend Monday floating in the Dead Sea, rubbing ourselves with the famous healing mud. The next morning, we will drive to the ancient carved city of Petra, and from there to Aqaba on the Red Sea,where Mark will go scuba diving while Mitchell snorkels. The next morning we depart for Wadi Rum, the beautiful desert area Lawrence of Arabia cherished. After a jeep tour and a camel ride, we will eat a Bedouin dinner and sleep under desert stars, in a tent with a glass dome. The next day we will cross the border back into Israel, fly up north to the Galilee and begin the third part of our honeymoon.
PART THREE: FOUR NIGHTS IN GALILEE
We will spend two days exploring the ancient city of Acre, seeing the marks and scars left by the Romans, the Ottomans, the Crusaders, the Mamelukes, the Byzantines, and the British. Our guide will take us to the Lebanon border and the National Reserve of Rosh HaNikra. We will visit Nazareth, the childhood home of Jesus and the largest Arab city in Israel. Then we will head eastbound toward Tiberias, on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, and experience the Golan Heights, the Kibbutz Dgania, Israel’s first commune, established in 1909 during Ottoman rule, and the mystical city of Tzfat. The next morning, we will drive into Tel Aviv, for the fourth part of our honeymoon.
PART FOUR: FOUR NIGHTS IN TEL AVIV
From ancient to modern, our guide will take us on a walking tour of the modern city of Tel Aviv and the ancient port of Jaffa. The next day is the annual Tel Aviv Pride Parade, during which we will be surrounded by tens of thousands of LGBT tourists from all around the world, and we will celebrate our freedom to love each other and marry and honeymoon in the Holy Land. And with that, we will be ready for the final part of our honeymoon.
PART FIVE: TWO FINAL NIGHTS IN JERUSALEM
We will arrive back in Jerusalem Saturday evening and have all day Sunday to reconnect with the Holy City. On Monday, June 11th, after one last visit to the Western Wall, our guide will take us back Ben Gurion Airport, where we will board our plane, grateful for the experience, and grateful to all of you for making it possible below.
