Hello all!
First and foremost, we'd like to say thank you for all of your love and support as we look forward to celebrating our marriage! We know that many of you will be coming from far away to take part in our wedding and we are truly blessed to have all of you in our lives.
Having moved away from home for school and work after college, both of us have acquired the furniture and home items that many newlyweds need. (In fact, we will most certainly be needing to get rid of many duplicate items!) That said, we hope that you might join in this registry as a way to help us embark on the honeymoon of a lifetime.
While we have taken many long road trips together, this will be our first trip out of the country together! (And Mark's first trip out of North America. Woo hoo!) We cannot wait to head out on our first adventure as a married couple though we plan to have many more throughout our marriage.
This registry will give us memories to last a lifetime and stories we hope to share with not only you, but with our grandchildren many moons from now.
Thank you again for all of your love! We can't wait to see you at the wedding!
Love,
Mark & Erika
About Our Honeymoon
Mark wanted beach and Erika wanted wine country. Both wanted the travel of a lifetime out of the country. Wouldn't you know it, we have found a way to have both!
After resting up the day after the wedding and saying goodbye to all of you fabulous people, we will hop on a plane down to Montevideo, Uruguay. Once there, we will immediately grab out rental car and head out to Punta Ballena, Uruguay.
Punta Ballena is on the coast of the Río de la Plata in Maldonado, Uruguay, just west of Punta del Este. We will hang up our boots here for three nights in the Sunset Suite of La Solana. La Solana as a hotel will be closed, but we are lucky to stay in the suite as an apartment during our three days. The area of Punta del Este hits "peak season" mid-December but is still considered "off season" just one week before. Therefore, we get the entire hotel to ourselves and get to avoid all of the crazy crowds but still have beautiful weather to enjoy! While in Punta Ballena, we will most certainly be lounging on the beach and relaxing after the long flight in. However, we will be taking a trip into casino-filled and glamorous Punta del Este and La Barra for at least one day.
Since we are flying in through the capital city of Uruguay, Montevideo, we are going to head back there for one day before we leave the country. We will be staying in the Loft of Casa Sarandi right in the middle of Old Town. Just steps from Solis Teatro and the market, we are going to explore the city on foot for most of the day. That evening, we will head out to a romantic dinner and say goodbye to Uruguay.
From Montevideo, we will fly to Mendoza, Argentina. Once we touch down, we will again be grabbing another rental car. Rather than staying within the city limits, we are going to drive down to the secluded Casa Antucura in Uco Valley, where the best South American wines are made! While there, we will explore the Andes Mountains, go vineyard hopping for a day, rent the Casa's antique BMW motorcycle for a day and maybe even go fly fishing if we have time!
After a week in South America - and a couple of days in an airplane - we will head back to Chicago, set up our Christmas tree and prepare for the holidays!
