Hi everyone!
First off, we'd like to say that your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift we could ask for. The time, effort, and expense of traveling to be with us is something we deeply appreciate, and we are so thrilled that we will be able to celebrate this important and happy day with you.
We are fortunate to have a lot of the "essential" home items a newly engaged couple needs. We hope you find this registry as a way to help us make our perfect honeymoon come true! While Kelly and I have taken many exciting trips together and explored many parts of the world, we are very much looking forward to our first real adventure as husband and wife. It is because of the lifetime of memories we will gain from this trip that we finally settled on a honeymoon registry for our trip to Spain and Portugal. We greatly appreciate and will fondly remember these gifts and the experiences they will enable for years to come. After all, the memories from this honeymoon will last a lot longer than a new set of wine glasses (especially with our breakage rate!).
We look forward to sharing our trip with you and will do our best to document our experience via photo, and include it in your much-deserved "thank you" note.
Thanks again and we can't wait to see you at the wedding (or before!).
Love,
Luke & Kelly
We're going to Spain and Portugal!
Kelly and I will be traveling to Spain and Portugal for two weeks to celebrate our marriage and start our life of adventure together. We will start our trip in the capital of Spain, Madrid. Here we will explore the museums, the royal palace, and soak in the late night atmosphere of this bustling city.
Then it will be off for a short flight to Porto, Portugal. We plan on exploring the countryside and wineries around the city where port wine originated. Porto is known for its great seafood that comes fresh from the Atlantic and we are looking forward in partaking in many new seafood specialties like mollusks, sea urchins, and octopus. This is our first time traveling in a Portuguese speaking country so we are looking forward to trying out our phrase books. From here we will be heading north along the Portuguese coast and stopping at some small fishing villages and enjoying some time on the beach.
We will cross back over into the northeastern Galicia region of Spain. This rugged, lush, and mountainous part of Spain is supposedly as green as Ireland and geographically very different from the rest of the country. We look forward to spending time hiking along the rocky shorelines and enjoying the beautiful mountain scenery. Then we will spend a few days in the city of Saintiago de Compestela. For centuries pilgrims have hiked across Europe to reach this city and its ornate cathedral that is supposedly the final resting place of the Apostle Saint James. This historic small city is very well preserved and is protected as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will soak up this old world charm while relaxing on small plazas enjoying the local wine.
After spending time relaxing in the small towns it will be back to the culture of a major city with a flight to Barcelona. Here we will enjoy the architecture of the famous architect Antonio Gaudi, take in some museums, and maybe even a bullfight so we get a great introduction to Spanish culture. We will also take in the nightlife by tapas bar hoping which gets started around 11:00pm and goes to well after midnight. We hope to try many different tapas, which are small appetizers that are regional delicacies. We may even spend a day on the renowned Barcelona beaches soaking up the sun before returning to enjoy the rest of our lives together.
