As you know, we both love an active travel experience with plenty of culture. We have heard great things about Tulum including its well preserved anceint ruins and rich cultural heritage that combined, make it an exceptional eco-tourism destination. Tulum is a quiet town located on the southern tip of the Riviera Maya along the Caribbean coast located in the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. Tulum is the site of a Pre-Columbian Maya walled city, serving as a major port for Coba. Tulum was one of the last cities inhabited and built by the Mayans.

While were there we plan to visit the the ancient Mayan ruins of Tulum, Coba, Muyil Chichenitza, Uxmal, Palenque and many more. With your help we will also do some snorkeling and swimming in local Cenotes, pools of fresh water that have been formed by caverns and sink holes. The El Gran Cenote was considered sacred waters by the Mayans. We also can't wait to visit the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. This reserve contains more than 1.2 million acres of estuaries, reefs, centoes and wetlands.

Along with the adventure we plan on doing some relaxing by soaking up the sun and surf. We are going to attempt to stay away from the tourist hotels and rent a beach villa to use as our "home base" to travel the peninsula during our honeymoon.
