We're going to Bali, Indonesia!
Leaving from the reception, we will be departing from SFO, making a short stopover in Taipei, and then on to the gorgeous island of Bali, Indonesia. A scenic land of active volcanoes, dense jungle, stunning beaches, and a rich, ancient culture, Bali is an island of tranquillity in the often-tumultuous Indonesian archipelago. Bali's peaceful way of life -- one marked by colorful ritual and genuine hospitality -- has drawn tourists, artists, and escapists for generations.
After doing some careful research, we decided to stay away from the main tourist areas and take this opportunity to explore the unique culture and lifestyle on Bali. We will arriving in the capital city of Denpasar and then heading south to the small village of Jimbaran. Throughout our trip, we will be staying at private villas on the island, the first of which is Villa Popo. Situated atop the Bukit in Jimbaran, Villa PoPo, is a picture of elegance and tranquility. The villa is located at the Tanah Bali compound which is home to eleven beautiful villas, many of which are permanent homes to some of Bali%u2019s most affluent residents. While residing here, we will take the opportunity to explore the Uluwatu Temple, explore and dive the coasts of Northeastern Bali, and just get some good rest and relaxation. We will also be taking a day trip to the island of Java to visit Borbodur, the largest Buddhist temple on Earth.
From Jimbaran, we will trek to the middle of the island to explore the jungle and culture of Ubud, a town reknowned for its arts and spas. While here, we will be staying at Villa Montana, a private villa whose philosophy is bringing together nature and luxury in harmony. Villa Montana is ideally located on the Ayung River Valley offering stunning valley edge views of the distant mountains and tropical forest. The villa will provide a relaxing base as we explore the wilder side of Bali through elephant riding, ATV tours, and white water rafting; however, we will also certainly be taking advantage of Ubud's amazing spas between days of action!
We will end our trip, traveling down to the southern side of the island, just west of the main tourism towns, in a small, but up and coming village called Canggu. The largest and relaxing villa was saved for last -- allowing us to relax and reflecton our adventures thus far. Villa Olesha beckons with a tall artistic tower with arches and a stained glass wall. A terracotta sun-face against the emerald green terraced paddy fields is sure to be a very special place. Located a short stroll through the rice fields to the beach, Canggu is a quieter surfing village, in which Villa Olesha is often referred to as The Jewel in Paradise. While here, we will be able to take a short trip into town to see the main tourist draws, do some souvenir shopping, and check out the bali nightlife scene. We will be able to dine at the villa while watching the sun set over the ocean and rice fields, or stroll through the grounds and take a canoe ride down the river. This will bring us to a very remarkable ending, as we head back to Denpasar to come back home.
