Although we still have a ways to go in our planning (and haven't firmed up our dates), we are looking at a two week trip with stops in Athens, Santorini, and Crete.

We will begin and end our trip in the city of Athens. During our time there we will visit the Acropolis, Parthenon, and the many other splendors of the Classical period housed in the National Archaeology Museum. We are also planing day trips to the archaeological sites of Corinth, Mycenae, and Tiryns.

From Athens, we will ferry to the island of Santorini, famous for its incredible setting along a volcanic caldera. Here we plan to soak up some sun and relax a little bit in an efficiency apartment. We also look forward to visiting the archaeological site of Akrotiri, a settlement buried, like Pompeii, under ash more than 3,500 years ago.

After Santorini, we will spend a week exploring the island of Crete. Crete is famous for its natural beauty, its climate, and its archaeological treasures. We plan to rent a car and start in the west at the old Venetian settlement of Chania and work our way eastward, visiting modern towns, beaches, and archaeological sites like the palace of Knossos. If we can handle driving in Guatemala City, Crete should present no problems!

To end our trip, we will be returning to Athens for some last minute souvenir hunting and to catch our flight home.
