Welcome to our honeymoon registry and thank you for sharing this special event with us! What is a honeymoon registry? Well, the name kind of says it all. When we looked at how much "stuff" we already owned, we realized the thing we had the least of, was time with each other. And, since the love of travel is one of the passions that brought us together - we thought the perfect idea would be to ask for help with our first adventure as husband and wife.
Read through the sections below to learn more about our honeymoon destination, then look further below to see the lists of events and items you can give as gifts. We have tried to divide up the items for all budgets, but please understand we appreciate your good wishes and friendship far above any money. Give if you wish, but join us for the wedding regardless!
Below the registry you will find more pictures of our destination, so look through and enjoy. We are both so anxious to see everyone in Moab!
We're going to Croatia!
True to our personalities, we had to pick someplace a little different and off the beaten path. We wanted a unique and exotic culture, crystal clear waters, islands to explore, museums and ancient ruins, wonderful fresh food and good local wines, and to top it off someplace were we could stretch the weak U.S. dollar. Not a lot to ask, huh?!?! But after some research we think we found the perfect place: Croatia!
The coastal area of Croatia is known as Dalmatia. It is across the Adriatic sea from Italy and has been a summer retreat of princes, kings, and czars for thousands of years. Ancient ruins of castles, walled cities, and red-tiled roofs still exist along the coast and among the many islands of legend and lore. We will actually be touring the islands that inspired Homer to write the Iliad and the Odyssey, and the home of Marko Polo.
So the plans have been laid. On the Monday following our wedding, we will depart for two weeks of honeymoon adventuring.
We will first fly into Croatia's capitol - Zagreb.
After a day and night of exploring, resting and accustoming ourselves to our new surroundings we will pick up our rental car and drive to the northern coast, a region known as Istria. Known as the "New Tuscany" or Provenice, Istria is known for their gourmet food, wonderful wine and picturesque towns.
Eventually we'll wander down to central Dalmatia and the island hot spots of Hvar, Vis and Korcula - Famous for their beaches, scenery and all around good times.
After getting our fill of the islands (is that possible?) we will head to the southern most city in our Croatian honeymoon - Dubrovnik.
As Lord Byron put it, Dubrovnik is the 'Pearl of the Adriatic'. Situated on the Dalmatian coast, it became an important Mediterranean sea power from the 13th century onwards. Although severely damaged by an earthquake in 1667, Dubrovnik managed to preserve its beautiful Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains. Damaged again in the 1990s by armed conflict, it is now the focus of a major restoration program co-ordinated by UNESCO. It will also be a perfect base for us to take day trips into the neighboring countries of Bosnia-Herzegovina and Montenegro, the setting of the last James Bond film, Casino Royale (and you know how Ashley loves Bond).
