Hi Everyone!

First of all, we want to say that the best gift of all will be having you at our wedding to celebrate with us. When we talked about what we wanted out of a wedding, the most important part was being able to share our day with the people that mean the most to us, many of whom because of time and distance, we don't get to see all that often. So, thank you to those of you who are able to travel to be with us on July 31, 2010. We're really looking forward to seeing you! And if you're unable to join us, we completely understand, traveling is expensive -- one of the reasons we decided to include a honeymoon registry.

We had never heard of a honeymoon registry before, but when we were looking into charitable giving through the I Do Foundation, this site was one of the registry options, so we thought we'd look into it. We love the fact that 3% of your gift goes to the charities we've chosen: Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International, Heifer Project International, Rain Forest Alliance, and Room to Read. We also love the fact that our guests can give us the gift of travel and help us experience once-in-a-lifetime activities.

Due to our -- ahem -- advanced ages, and the fact that we've been living on our own as well as together awhile, we already have many of the "household necessities" typically found on registries, so this is an opportunity for our guests who wish to give us a gift (other than the pleasure of their company) to help us make our dream of seeing Alaska come true. We will do our best to document our trip and provide you with some photos of the unique experiences that your generosity will help provide.

And if this is too weird, or abstract, or feels impersonal, our moms assure us that our towels are ratty and need to be replaced, and we've discovered our plates don't really fit in the dishwasher that we now have -- so some more standard gift options appear on our other registries, and you are welcome to peruse them. We don't even have a crock pot! But, before you depart, please take a look at our site and see what great activities we have planned for our honeymoon in Alaska. Thank you! We look forward to seeing you in July!

We're going to Alaska!

After our wedding weekend, we will depart from Minneapolis/St. Paul on Monday, August 2nd, for a two-week honeymoon in Alaska. Plans changed some, though! We've decided to centralize a little rather than travel all over the state. This ensures another trip to go to the cities we miss on this adventure. We'll first fly to Anchorage, where we'll spend the night, and then hop a train, winding our way north into Denali National Park, a must-see for any Alaskan getaway. We'll hike some trails in search of wildlife and pitch a tent for a few nights. Afterwards, we'll hop on a bus this time and travel to Seward to stay at the Bear Paws Lodge. In Seward we plan to do a sea kayaking trip to see some glaciers up close and maybe spot a few whales! We'll also trek a glacier the day after, with crampons and everything. It should be amazing. There's also a trail in Seward that runs up to a hidden lake that we'll probably take lunch up to. Then it's off to Girdwood for... Well, something. Maybe ziplining? Biking? Hiking? Bear spotting? We haven't figured that out exactly yet. Relaxing and getting to know the locals, perhaps. Then we're back on the bus to Anchorage for a little sightseeing before our flight to Minneapolis and then the car ride back to Cedar Rapids.

We just flew in and, boy, are our arms tired! Put us up for a night so we can rest up for Denali Park the next day. The Qupqugiaq Inn (say that three times fast) is located in Midtown Anchorage.

Regan wants to see a bear eating salmon. In person. I don't know why this costs money. Maybe for the salmon's funeral?

Camping in Denali seems like the thing to do. Now, how does this tent work?

In case we can't wrestle food away from a bear, we should have some provisions in Denali Park. Can you say "freeze dried"?

Every day should be started with a hearty breakfast. Evidently there's actually a bagel place in Alaska - though we couldn't find a picture of it! We hope they have "everything bagels", since those are our favorite.
