Hi everyone!
Thanks for visiting our honeymoon registry. We are looking forward to seeing everybody in Texas this December 30th for the wedding. It will be wonderful to have our friends and family there to share it with us. We really appreciate all of the out-of-towners who are planning to attend, and we hope you'll enjoy the stark Panhandle scenery as much as we do.
After the wedding we're heading first Oklahoma City to enjoy News Year Eve with one of our favorite bands, The Flaming Lips. The "Lips" are from Oklahoma City and each year do a fun downtown concert in front of their hometown fans. We have been to the show before, in 2007/2008 and it will be remembered as one of our best nights together. And then we are off to "The Big Easy" and to Mamou, LA to enjoy that good ol' cajun atmosphere. Your gifts will only make those trips, that much more fun and memorable!
Thank you all and we love you!
We're going to OKLAHOMA CITY, OK; NEW ORLEANS, LA; MAMOU,LA.!
After our wedding on December 30th in Perryton, Texas we will head to Oklahoma City, OK for the beginning of our honeymoon and will go to a Flaming Lips concert. Then, we will go to New Orleans, LA and enjoy "The Big Easy" together. And finally we will head to Mamou, LA, a small town north of New Orleans hailed and "the heart of Cajon music" before we head home to Montana.
Mamou:
There are many stories about the name Mamou. One was the legendary Indian, Chief Mamou. Chief Mamou's authenticity and impact on history is questionable. However, it is certain that this vast prairie was known as Mamou Prairie as far back as the 1700s and that Anglo-Americans first called it 'Mammouth Prairie' because of its immense size. And when the Frenchmen came they called it 'Mamou' for mammouth. The name "Mamou" is also a family name found in France. Within this vast stretch of prairie, the town site of Mamou was laid out in 1907 by Curley C. Duson of Eunice, Louisiana. He was president of the Mamou Town site Company which opened an office on the corner of Seventh and Chestnut. Lot auctions were held weekly and lots back then sold for $50. The original village covered one square mile. On January 11, 1911 Mamou was incorporated. Cotton was the major crop for many years on the prairie. By 1915 the village boosted having four cotton gins baling thousands of bales of ginned cotton. The decline in the demand for cotton led the area farmers toward the growing of rice that is now the major crop of the area.
Mamou is located at the heart of Louisiana's Cajun country. The town is famous for its music and musicians, and bills itself as "The Cajun Music Capital of the World." Consequently, Mamou figures into a number of song titles (such as "'Tit Galop Pour Mamou" and "Valse de Grand Mamou") and lyrics, as well as band names (such as Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys). Mamou is also home of the world famous Fred's Lounge, which features live Cajun music every Saturday morning. Each year the town holds a "Courir de Mardi Gras".
