Caitrin & David

June 20, 2009

We met because we're huge Kevin Smith fans - and the theatrical release of "Clerks II" created the circumstances for two goofy twentysomethings to meet and fall in love.

Our first date was on Dave's 29th birthday, and was as awkward as you'd expect. Our second date was frothy and romantic and perfect - and we've been inseparable ever since. We've weathered a lot: a parent's death, new jobs, a move to a new state and increased cholesterol levels since living in the Crescent City. But each bit of adversity has just convinced us that we're meant to be.

In April, this vertically mismatched pair drove to Pensacola to see Coach Bobby Bowden, head football coach at Florida State University/Caiti's hero, speak. There, in front of several hundred Seminole fans, Dave shocked Caiti when he dropped to one knee. Coach Bowden, naturally, was on hand to bless the proceedings.

We're so honored to share our joy with our friends and family - thank you for your support!

We're going to Italy!

We've always dreamed of exploring the catacombs of Rome, the mysterious canals of Venice and the lagoons of the Amalfi Coast.

Our honeymoon will begin in as we bid adieu to the Crescent City and look toward the sun-washed landscapes of Italy. We'll fly into Milan, where we'll stay for our exhausted and jetlagged first night in Italy. From Milan we'll hop a train to Venice. To us, Venice is the New Orleans of Europe - below sea level, potentially odorous, and very romantic. We'll spend two days exploring everything from the Doge's Palace to the home of bellinis, Harry's Bar.

From Venice we'll take the train to Florence and Bologna, where we'll explore everything from the Uffizi to the vineyards of Tuscany - not to mention checking out Bologna's reputation as the gastronomical capital of the country.

With stomachs sated, we'll travel to Rome for a few days to eat in the Trastevere, take a night walking tour of the city's historic monuments and architecture, and of course, visit the Vatican!

From Rome we'll venture south to unwind from our whirlwind sightseeing. We'll spend several days based out of Positano and Anacapri, where Cait will turn history geek and visit the National Archaeology Museum in Naples, as well as Pompeii. Dave's stomach will benefit, of course, from the birthplace of pizza - Naples!

We'll spend several days lolling about on the beaches of the Amalfi Coast and visiting the famed Blue Grotto. We'll meander through the quaint fishing towns and jagged coastlines, and most importantly, we'll spend this relaxing time together, savoring the fact that we're now Mr. and Mrs. Gladow.

We will return to reality when we depart from Naples to fly back to New Orleans and begin writing heartfelt thank-yous to our wonderful friends and family.

Thank you for sharing this day - and this experience! - with us. Mille grazie, y'all!

We'll be exhausted from our flight into Milan's Malpensa Airport. We'd love to spend our first night in Italy relaxing with a bottle of prosecco to relieve our jet lag.
