Michael and I have been fully functioning adults for quite some time (though some may disagree with this point, we adamantly declare ourselves to be responsible). Prior to living in sin with one another starting in October of 2011, we had both survived on our own for several years. So when the day came to combine our lives into one apartment, we were faced with the problem of having not only one of every small appliance and piece of furniture one adult may need, but now we had two of each. After determining which of us had the better belongings (me, duh), we purged our lives of useless crockpots, coffee makers, and old Cavaliers blankets, amongst other things, and continued on our sinfully happy lives until the day I said, "YES!!"
Because of the above, registering for our wedding has proved to be a challenge. We just have no use for another coffee maker, crock pot, or other item that many couples just starting out might request. While we do have a traditional registry where friends and family members may help us decorate our new home and indulge our culinary inquistions, we thought registering for items that will help us celebrate our marriage on our honeymoon was an excellent alternative.
We'd like you to know that while we are very excited for our adventure in Ireland, your presence at our wedding is the greatest gift we could ask for. The time, effort, and expense of traveling to be with us is something we deeply appreciate, and we are so thrilled that we will be able to celebrate this happy occasion with you.
We'll do our best to document our experience via photo and include it in your much deserved "thank you" note.
Thanks again and we can't wait to see you at the wedding (or earlier!).
Love,
Lindsay & Michael
We're going to Southern Ireland Driving Tour!
Michael and I are very excited to start our journey as husband and wife by traveling to Ireland! We plan on renting a car, learning very quickly to drive on the left-hand side of the road, and setting out to explore ye olde country. We hope to visit the Blarney Stone, sample some fish and chips and wash it down with a few pints, and stay at both castles and bed-and-breakfast alike along the way. We figure that since we'll both be going by the name McMahon, what better way to spend our honeymoon!
Our plan so far includes....
Day 1: Arrive at Shannon airport and head to Limerick.
Day 2 & 3: From Limerick we will drive onto Killarney for the next 2 nights, making sure to stop at the beautiful village of Adare . We will visit the Muckross House, Killarney National Park, Ross Castle, and if Michael has it his way, even go for a round of golf at one of Killarney Golf and Fishing Clubs two Championship courses. We plan to explore some of the traditional pubs and maybe enjoy an Irish Music Seisiun. Of course we want to head to Dingle town, the most westerly town in Europe. Dingle is a charming little fishing town that offers quite a lot for visitors to see and do. We will enjoy the popular Ring of Kerry tour where the winding road will lead us between breathtaking Atlantic coastline and the higest mountains in Ireland. Glenbeigh, Waterville and Sneem are on route and there will be plenty of stops to admire.
Day 4 & 5: We will depart from Killarney and drive west along the north side of the Beara Peninsula to Allihies, Castletownbere, Glengarriff and in to Bantry where we will stop for lunch. Bantry House is superbly located overlooking the harbour and is well worth a visit. We will continue on to Skibbereen which is a small busy town packed with tourists in the summer time. From there we will drive onto Baltimore for our next two nights stay. From Baltimore we can go sailing and also visit Clear and Sherkin Islands.
Day 6: From Baltimore we will drive up through West Cork to Kinsale otherwise known as the "Gourmet Capital of Ireland"! Its location ensures a plentiful supply of seafood for the town's restaurants and eateries. An extensive selection of pubs, restaurants and hotels are available as would be expected from such an acclaimed centre of tourism. The yachting and sailing fraternity frequent the town through the summer.
Day 7: From Kinsale we will drive towards Wexford passing through Waterford City and maybe stopping for lunch to explore the city shop for some Waterford Crystal at the Crystal Factory (Michael will love that!). Once in Wexford also know as the "Model County" we can see the most beautiful coastal villages, sunny seashores with numerous beaches and bird watch reserves. Upon reaching the Viking town of Wexford we will try and visit the JFK Arboretum, a 252 hectare arboretum which is dedicated to the memory of the late US President. Of course we will visit as many castles along the way, such as Ballyhack Castle, Ferns Castle and Slade Castle to name but a few.
Day 8 & 9: We will leave Wexford and drive a short distance north to Dublin. We will take a guided tour of Dublin's City Centre, eat at one of Dublin's many top class restaurants and sample Dublin's nightlife. Ireland is famous for its friendly pubs and we intend to visit all of them.
Day 10 & 11: We will drive to Galway, regarded by many as Ireland's nicest city. Connemara lies north west of Galway and has some of the best scenery in the country. We might decide to stay in Connemara for an extra day to see it in more detail. We will certainly travel south to the Cliffs of Moher to see one of Ireland's most popular attractions. The Cliffs are in County Clare - where Michael's family is from. We'll be sure to look them up!
Day 12: Leave Shannon Airport to return home with fond memories of our trip to Ireland!
