Frequently Asked Questions
What is an online honeymoon registry?
A honeymoon registry is similar to a traditional wedding registry, in which you sign up for the
gifts you would like to receive for your wedding. With Traveler's Joy, you build a registry with
your honeymoon travel plans and guests contribute monetary gifts towards the honeymoon of your dreams.

How much does the Traveler's Joy service cost?
Our service fee is always a flat 7.5% of the total gift balance.

How and when is the service fee assessed?
The service fee is assessed only when a gift redemption (such as a check or wire transfer) is requested. For example, if you have $10.00 in your account you could redeem up to $9.25 with $0.75 taken as the service fee. Members can request as few or as many gift redemptions as they like - before, after, or even during the honeymoon.

Are my gift-givers charged any extra fees?
Never! If you put a gift that costs $100 on your registry, it will cost a guest exactly $100 to purchase it for you.

What if I want my gift-givers to cover the fee?
Easy, just add a bit to the cost of each item you put on your registry. Everything on our system is fully customizable. We've found that most gift-givers are turned off by the addition of an "extra" fee during checkout.

Tell me more about the service fee...
We are proud to offer one of the lowest service fees in the industry. Unlike many other sites, we have the very simple fee structure detailed above. Our Members also have the flexibility of booking their travel through the agent or carrier with which they find the best deal.
Our fee is very competitive given the high costs associated with accepting credit cards online. The average cost for merchants that accept credit cards online is approximately 3%. Some large online companies like Amazon.com may get lower rates but fees for Internet-based companies are always more expensive than those charged to physical stores. Combined with overhead costs, that makes Traveler's Joy profit margin low after the service fee is assessed. We make our profit by serving thousands and thousands of satisfied couples every year.
One may ask, why accept credit cards if it is so expensive? The reason is because guests would rather use their credit card than give a check or cash because it is far more convenient for them. We've found that gifts are, on average, 34% larger when the giver uses their credit card than if the gift was provided with cash or a check.
We encourage prospective Members to learn what rates our competitors are currently charging. Some offer a lower fee, but only if travel is booked with their service. We tend to think those services will simply mark up the travel a bit to more than make up for the loss of a service fee. Some have no service fee at all and advertise as "free" honeymoon registries. What they don't usually tell users is that, to contribute via credit card, guests will more than likely need to sign up for some sort of 3rd party payment service — and even then the Member will always pay some sort of credit card processing fee directly to that service. The "free" services also tend to make profit by plastering your registry with advertising and selling your contact information to marketing firms. There's nothing wrong with the different approaches to the honeymoon registry market, but we think when prospective Members look at all angles, our model will look the best.

How do I inform my friends and family about my site?
You can use our free email registry notice postcard service, our complimentary invitation insert template, or, better yet, create your own unique way to notify people (mail postcards, letters, website, etc.). Your custom home page will have an easy-to-remember web address that you can create (http://www.travelersjoy.com/members/CUSTOM/) so letting everyone know where they can give you a gift is always simple.
Please note: Your customized website address cannot be changed after registration is completed.

How do I receive the gifts in my Traveler's Joy account?
Simply log into the Your Account page and click the "Redeem Gifts" link. From there, you can schedule a check to be sent to you or a bank ACH or wire transfer. We offer five gift delivery options (USPS First Class mail, FedEx 2Day, FedEx Overnight, FedEx Priority Overnight, and bank ACH or wire transfer). While checks sent USPS First Class Mail are always free, extra fees apply for FedEx, ACH, and wire transfer requests. Please note, due to security reasons, we can only issue checks in the name of the primary account holder. It takes 72 hours for funds from a gift transaction to be available for withdrawal (Why?).

What is the best way to thank a guest?
We believe a personal thank you card is always best. Traveler's Joy provides its Members with the gift-givers' contact information in order to make the thank you card process as easy as possible. Within the Account Management page, click on the "Create Printable Thank You List" link and a custom window will pop up ready for printing. Note that this link will not be visible until you have received at least one gift.

Is my personal information safe?
We will not share or sell any of the personal information of our registrants or gift givers
(read our Privacy Policy).
All of your personal information is stored on secure servers in our world class, state-of-the-art data center
in Parsippany, New Jersey. In addition, we do not save credit card information once a gift transaction has
been completed. The gift transaction itself is encrypted (see "Is credit card information secure?" below).

Is credit card information secure for those that give me gifts?
Our site uses industry standard 128-bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) to ensure that gift-giver sensitive data
(credit card number, name, address, etc.) is transmitted securely - every time. In addition, we use internal
measures to further increase each individual transaction's data security.
When we ask for gift giver credit card numbers or other personal information, we transfer that information
from their computer to ours via SSL. SSL encrypts the data before it is transmitted. In the rare event that
someone "listens in" on the wire, they'll get only encrypted information. We do not store your gift givers'
personal information after the transaction has been successfully completed.

Where does the money go when I receive a gift?
After a gift giver's credit card is charged, the money is deposited into a special account at Wachovia Bank.
The balances in the account are used only for Member deposits and withdrawal requests.

How do I know when I receive a gift?
An email detailing the gift will be automatically sent to both the gift giver and you. In addition, your account information will be immediately updated. The gift giver can also request, for a small additional fee, a custom gift card be sent directly to you or to themselves (to give to you at a later time).

How long can I keep a balance in my Traveler's Joy account?
Your account can have a balance indefinitely. However, if you keep a balance more than a year after your wedding, we may try to contact you to make sure you haven't forgotten about your gifts.

Why can't I change the name of Honeymooner #1?
Once you complete the registration process, you cannot change the name of Honeymooner #1. While our servers are secured by the latest technology, someone could still gain access to your account if they discover your login information or if you use our site on a public computer and do not log out. Since gift redemption checks and money transfers will only be distributed to the Honeymooner #1 name, there is another layer of protection in one of these rare events. Even if a malicious user has access to your account, they still cannot get a check or money transfer sent to them in their own name.
Please note: Once an account has at least one gift there are absolutely no exceptions to this rule.

Why does it take 72 hours for my gifts to be available for redemption?
In order to keep fees low for everyone, we need to make sure that credit card transactions are not fraudulent. The 72-hour delay allows us to catch any fraudulent activity. It's an unfortunate but necessary measure for us to take, and we apologize for any inconvenience.
