Hi there!

Thank you for visiting my travel registry page! As some of you may already know, I am passionate about (mainly) two things in life - food & travel. It is my dream/ mission/ desire to see the world in this lifetime (at least most of it). Well, I have somewhat limited time (& resources) on this Earth & it has so much to offer. I have travelled to 32 countried only as yet. Your contribution would help me up this number.

You may ask "Why do you want to travel?" Good question! Well, my travel is not all for fun & vacationing. I want to connect with the people I meet & bring back something from each encounter. I beleive that by sharing stories & cultures, you enrich each others' lives, develop deeper understanding & are an instrument in creating peace in this world. I volunteer in the local communities teaching English or working in orpanages, learn to cook the cuisine or speak the native language. One of the things I learned during my trips is that we humans have the same needs, desires & aspirations, no matter what race, color, gender or nation we belong to. I realized there was so much in common between the elderly ladies I spoke to in Russia & my own grandmother in India.

When I return from my trips, I write articles, blogs, speak at radio shows, etc. There is a vast amount of learning that comes from each of these trips, be it about the culture, how people live, or a personal observation of commonalities across countries. Since I am a self declared foodie, I generally gather some recipes or recreate my own. I would post these on my web site, teach them in cooking classes & entertain my supporters at home.

Through my travels, I have impacted the people I have helped (volunteered for), the people I met in brief encounters, my readers & listeners whom I have inspired, my friends who have eaten my food, my students who have learned some new dishes & more. It is truely a gift that keeps on giving. So, here is a chance for you to support my travels & add more joy to the world!

Thank you,
Sucheta

PS. I also accept airline vouchers/ skymiles, hotel points, gift certificates, etc.

We're going to Volunteer vacations!

Volunteer in Spain July 2012
This summer, I plan to visit Madrid and travel 3 hours south to a rural area. There I will be teaching conversational English to local business men and women through language training programs. While the organization provides free room and board to all volunteers for a week, I would need to pay for my own transportation, including airfare, train tickets, and pre and post hotel stays. As you know, traveling to Europe in the summer is not cheap so I can use all the help I can. I am looking to raise $2,000 towards this trip.

Volunteer in Liberia Nov 2012
This Spring I volunteered with the executive committee of Balama Development Alliance, a non profit working on efforts to rebuild the village of Balama in Liberia. Rev Jessy takes a group of volunteers throughout the year to work hands on in the village, teaching at the schools, providing education in micro credit lending and women's empowerment. The village of Balama is very remote so hotel and food is expensive, while the facilities are meager. The program is 2 weeks duration and costs approx. $3,000 per person.

Volunteer in Kenya May 2013
I volunteered with a non profit organization, Inable in Atlanta through Community Consulting Teams. Inable helps the blind and visually impaired complete their high school education through computer programs and become self sufficient. I helped with the re branding and marketing of the organization. The founder of Inable, Irene Mbari-Kirika will be taking a group with her from Atlanta to Kenya to witness the impact of our work there, while showing us some of the highlights of her beautiful country.
