From Our Members
"Make gifts seem as individual and self-contained as possible. Nobody really went for the 'contribute $40 to our $400 rental car' they just gave the whole car or went for something cheaper. Instead of making gifts seem generic, make it seem like a unique experience that you will only have if they contribute. Instead of 'dinner each night at our hotel' try '$40 bottle of wine at a restaurant on the XYZ River.'
Register something for everyone's taste. A day of museums, a night at the opera, a fancy dinner, a charming hotel, snorkeling/hiking/fishing tour, etc. People will choose what resonates with their own sensibility.
Finally, to really make people feel like they were personally connected to our trip, we took pictures at every place we had registered for and sent a copy of the relevant photo with our thank you. It makes you feel a little more connected with the the thought behind the gift."
- Martha & Jim
"Don't be afraid to be funny. People loved that we wanted 100 frozen drinks and 50 postcards. Be as specific as possible. We noticed that people got us gifts that really fit their personalities. An example was snorkeling from a friend that loved to do that, the Mayan Ruins from a couple who had been before. Give a broad range of prices so everyone can find something they can afford."
- April & Chris
"Keep gift choices fun and unique, like zip line tour through rain forest, instead of standard things like hotel rooms and plane tickets."
- Jennifer & Jason
"The biggest tip we have is to register for every amount, that way people with a limited budget can still contribute and feel as though they have gotten you something special."
- Mikala & Tony
"Use all the functionality that Traveler's Joy has to offer. Post as many pictures as you can and be descriptive enough about your honeymoon to make your guests feel as though they are part of the experience."
- Elaine & Brett
"Make sure there are options in all different price catagories. Make them fun - people are more likely to get you a gift to a specific restaurant than just 'money for dinner'."
- Ashley & Matthias
Writing Your Guest Message
Use this opportunity to welcome guests to your registry page and thank them for visiting.
This is a good space to describe any special details you'd like to share about your
relationship, engagement, or wedding in order to customize your honeymoon registry.
Example guest message:
Hi everyone!
Thanks for visiting our honeymoon registry. We are looking forward to seeing everybody in Colorado
next June for the wedding. It will be wonderful to have all of our friends and family there to
share it with us. We really appreciate all of the out-of-towners who are planning to attend, and we hope
you'll enjoy the mountain scenery as much as we do.
After the wedding we're heading to the west coast
to relax in the California sun. Since we were engaged last summer in Napa Valley, California holds a
special place in our hearts and we're excited to return for our honeymoon. Your gift will only make
the trip that much more fun and memorable!
Writing About Your Honeymoon
Describe your travel plans, including as much information as you want to about your honeymoon.
A tentative itinerary or special activity you have planned will help your guests envision the
gifts they'll be contributing to your honeymoon.
Your goal is to explain why a honeymoon of your dreams (and not a new set of silverware)
would be the gift of a lifetime. Help your guests imagine the memories they will be a part of creating.
Example destination details:
California, here we come!
Our honeymoon will start in San Diego, where we'll relax on the beach after a very busy spring.
From there we'll rent a convertible and drive up the coast to San Francisco, stopping for a few
days in Santa Barbara and Monterrey/Carmel along the way. We look forward to enjoying the time
away together in beautiful surroundings, and to celebrating our wedding with a toast of Napa Valley wine.
Thanks so much for your wonderful gift.
Creating an Activities & Trip Details List
In addition to the summary of your honeymoon, most members find it useful to list out specific honeymoon activities and trip details. This helps make the guest feel their gift is special, personal, and specific. It also allows you to thank your guest for a specific gift. In addition to the typical items, include the creative and unique activities that will make your honeymoon memorable.
Writing Your Registry Notice Message
If you use the built-in email registry notice postcard feature of your account, you will need to provide a messsage
for the recipients. Example #1 is a more personal, direct, approach. Others may prefer the notices have a
more "official" feel and not necessarily look like a direct request from the wedding couple. Example #2 demonstrates
how this may be done.
A link to your registry page will be included automatically at the end of every message.
Example #1 Registry Notice Message:
We have been busy preparing for the wedding and can't believe how close it is. We never realized how many decisions have to be made, even for the smallest things! While our most recent to-do list had about 200 items left, we recently crossed one off - our honeymoon location. Two weeks in beautiful Hawaii. The link below will take you directly to our honeymoon registry page where you can find out more about the memorable trip we have planned.
We can't wait to see you in June!
Love,
Katie and Scott
Example #2 Registry Notice Message:
Traveler's Joy is proud to be the exclusive wedding and honeymoon registry for Katie Wilson and Scott Barlow. Traveler's Joy and the wedding couple would like to thank all of the friends and family who are making their dream honeymoon come true.
The honeymoon has been set for June 9, 2007. Still looking for a gift? There is still time to give to Katie and Scott's Caribbean paradise honeymoon. The link below will take you directly to their honeymoon registry page where you can find out more about the memorable trip they have planned.
