Eugenio & Emily
Destination: Berlin, Budapest, & Prague
Our honeymoon certainly wasn’t perfect, and it would have been foolish to think it could be. We got lost, we were sweaty a lot of the time, we fought, we got sick, but throughout the whole time it brought us closer together and we experienced something quite monumental together. The memories will remain with us forever.
Alexander & Jamie
Destination: Turkey, Croatia, & Slovenia
We developed a great love for the Balkan people we served and lived among, and the first thing we wanted to do was return to spend the holidays with them! We wanted to keep alive those friendships we cherish so dearly. Traveling had also become important to us, as we had discovered new people and places in the past few years. To “travel more” had become one of our greatest lifetime goals.
Elizabeth & Kendall
The idea for the trip had surfaced on one of our earlier date nights, shortly after our engagement. We had dated for just a little more than a year, but both Kendall and I had wanted to travel the Camino Frances to Santiago de Compostela for years, and for us the idea of a walking adventure had rung truer than a journey to a tropical paradise.
Kari & David
Destination: Spain, France, Italy, Hungary, & Austria
Whenever people ask where we went on our honeymoon, we respond, “We went to Europe.” Friends and family usually follow up with, “Wow, that’s great. For how long? Where did you go?” We always reply, “We spent thirty-one days visiting five countries and ten cities. But we could have stayed there forever.” Invariably, the inquirer’s reaction is a mixture of shock and excitement, followed by an array of questions. We never get tired of talking about our adventures. We cherish these repeat conversations just as much as we treasure the memories we made. And when life gets us down, we talk about it together.
Katharine & Laura
Destination: Costa Rica
Costa Rica was a terrific choice for a honeymoon, and we’d love to go back and see the regions we didn’t get to visit, although we were able to see much of the relatively small country in two weeks. A trip like this costs several thousand dollars, and our Traveler’s Joy honeymoon fund, along with additional gifts from family, covered our costs entirely.
Natalie & Tyler
Our honeymoon in Bali was truly sensational. We would highly recommend it to lovebirds desiring a tropical getaway offering both adventure and relaxation. To quote Natalie’s journal: Bali is such a unique and beautiful place. Everywhere, the foliage in bright shades of green covers the hillsides. The air smells musty and hot infused with sweet scents of flowers. People smile everywhere you go. They are extremely friendly and generous with their dispositions. Kites in all shapes and sizes color the sky. Geckos scurry across every warung wall, tiny ants line every restaurant table, and dogs nap in the shade on the streets. They are all saying, “Yes, I live in the land of tradition and prayer, laughter and late nights, incense and rice. I live in paradise."
Lindsay & Michael
Destination: Appalachian Trail
The Appalachian Trail is said to be a trail for those “seeking fellowship with nature,” and we were hooked on the romantic idea of experiencing America at its core, even if it was altogether a far-fetched notion. We knew we would regret it if we never tried, and it felt like the right time. We tossed around a thousand ideas before deciding to hike the Appalachian Trail as our honeymoon!
Jacob & Hannah
Our favorite days during our honeymoon were the ones on top of mountains, in the deserts, and inside jungle canopies together. The ones following locals to secret places tourists don’t get to see or ever experience.
Sara & John
Destination: National Parks Getaway
We had three months. We had the fall. So we decided to load our gear up in the Jeep and take a road trip. It was going to be a magical experience! First across the plains to Glacier, then up and over the North Cascades before shooting down the Pacific Coast and zig-zagging our way up through the canyonlands of the Southwest towards home in Wisconsin. We climbed mountains, descended canyons, encountered black bears, defended our breakfast from curious mountain goats, and spent afternoons watching seals and sea lions play in ocean currents. We lived, loved, and explored in both sickness and health, creating a home within each other, rather than one tied to any formal address.
