Greetings family, loved ones, dear friends and those financially-secured acquaintances who are easily separated from their cash,
First of all, thank you so much for celebrating this tremendously exciting event with us! Michael and I could not be more thrilled about getting hitched. We are so blessed to have loved ones to share our hapiness and to bear witness to this time in our lives. Your presence on January 3rd is plenty gift enough, but we set up this honeymoon registry for those of you that may want to donate to our post-wedding whirlwind Asian tour of love.
Those of you that know me well won't be shocked to learn that I have a pretty well-stocked kitchen. Michael, thanks entirely to his aunt and mother, also has some really nice stuff. Between us, the list of items we really need to start our well-fed lives together is pretty small. Also, both of us are big believers in gifting experiences and loved the idea of invloving our friends and family in what will most likely be the coolest trip of our lives. Which brings us to the honeymoon registry. We'll be adding events as we finalize our itinerary and promise to send out pictures when we return. While we can't physically take you with us, you can join in the fun and help us make the most of three glorious weeks.
I think it is worth noting, at this point, the history of the honeymoon tradition that you are now (hopefully) supporting. The word "honeymoon" has its roots in the Norse word "hjunottsmanathr" (try saying that after a few glasses of bubbly) and was anything but blissful. Northern European history says that groom had to abduct his bride from a neighboring village. It was imperative that the abductor (aka the groom) take his hostage (aka the bride) into hiding for period of time so that her family or other interested fellows couldn't reclaim her. His friends assured his and her safe keeping and kept their whereabouts unknown. Once the bride's family gave up their search, the groom returned to his people with his booty...I mean bride... in tow. While this idea may appeal a great deal to Michael, I am opting for a slightly less violent experience (Thai boxing aside). However, if you would like us to add a Nordic-themed event to the registry, please contact us and we'll see what we can do.
Arigato, Kha, Ar kun, and thank you,
Rachel
